Gaz-System has verified the list of companies that may be interested in participating in the tender for the execution of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline. Through the Request for Information (RFI) procedure 37 companies were contacted. The prospective contractors of the main works have expressed their readiness to participate in the tender.
– The performed market research demonstrated that the potential contractors of individual work stages have the technical and logistic capabilities to execute the subsequent phases of the investment. Works on the offshore gas pipeline have been divided into two main packages (supply of pipes and the installation on the bottom of the Baltic Sea) and seven minor ones. Within the first package, the RFI was sent to 8 companies, that can potentially supply adequate pipes within the assumed time limit. All companies responded to the query, among which 7 expressed their interest in obtaining and execution of the contract. Another 4 companies bidding to execute the offshore construction works expressed their interest in the tender for suppling the pipes. The total of 11 companies are interested in the supply of pipes, all of which accepted the planned process and tender conditions. Responses to the Request for Information also confirm the feasibility of the assumed schedule of supplies.
Another key contract related to the gas pipeline is the installation of the supplied pipes on the sea bottom. All 7 queried companies responded to the RFI and at this stage confirmed the feasibility of the envisaged tender process.
Seven smaller packages for services associated with the investment were identified within the Project. The orders will include, among others, detection and removal of any unexploded ordnances on the gas pipeline route, supervision over the pipe installation and the third party verification and certification of the gas pipeline manufacture and installation.
The next step in the implementation of the Baltic Pipe will consist in meetings with prospective contractors of the main contracts, who have demonstrated their interest and confirmed their technical capabilities and experience in the execution of similar projects.
According to current assumptions, the actual tendering process will start at the beginning of 2019. Later this year Gaz-System and the Danish transmission system operator Energinet shall make the final investment decision and in 2019 the designing works and detailed technical analyses will continue. The environmental impact report will be submitted in the individual countries of the project and public consultations will be held. The offshore construction works are planned for 2020 – 2022.
