A location decision for Goleniów-Lwówek gas pipeline has been issued

On 15 May 2019, the Governor of the Greater Poland Province issued a location decision for the project entitled “Construction of the Goleniów-Lwówek DN1000 Gas Pipeline”. This is the first location decision for a project under the Baltic Pipe programme.
The construction of the Goleniów-Lwówek gas pipeline is one of the five projects implemented as part of the Baltic Pipe project in Poland. The gas pipeline will be approximately 191 km long, its nominal diameter will be 1000 mm and its operating pressure will be 8.4 MPa.

It will be constructed along the existing Szczecin-Lwówek gas pipeline. The pipeline will be constructed in three provinces: West Pomerania Province, Lubusz Province and Greater Poland Province. It will pass through 15 communes: Goleniów, Maszewo, Stargard, Dolice, Przelewice, Pełczyce, Strzelce Krajeńskie, Zwierzyn, Santok, Deszczno, Skwierzyna, Przytoczna, Pszczew, Międzychód and Lwówek.

The planned gas pipeline will ultimately be constructed in two sections:

  • section 1: from Goleniów to Ciecierzyce, with a length of approximately 122 km;
  • section 2: from Ciecierzyce to Lwówek, with a length of approximately 69 km.

The project is to enable more gas to be received from the Baltic Pipe offshore gas pipeline and from the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście. Its implementation will also be an important element of the North-South Gas Corridor.

Baltic Pipe is a project implemented in close cooperation between GAZ-SYSTEM, a Polish gas transmission operator, and Energinet, a Danish transmission system operator for gas and electricity. It is meant as a new route for the supply of natural gas from Norway to the Danish and Polish markets and also to end users in neighbouring countries. Once implemented, the project will enhance energy security in Poland and in the entire CEE region and increase the competitiveness of the Polish gas market.Baltic Pipe consists of 5 components:

  • a gas pipeline on the North Sea seabed (an offshore gas pipeline between the Norwegian and Danish gas transmission systems);
  • the extension of the Danish transmission system (the extension of the existing transmission system in Denmark);
  • a gas compressor station in Denmark (a gas compressor station located in the eastern part of Zealand);
  • a gas pipeline on the Baltic Sea seabed (an offshore gas pipeline between the Danish and Polish gas transmission systems);
  • the extension of the Polish transmission system (the extension of the existing transmission system in Poland).

The projects planned in Poland, apart from the construction of the Goleniów-Lwówek gas pipeline, include:

  • the construction of the gas pipeline connecting the offshore gas pipeline to the national transmission system;
  • the extension of the Goleniów Gas Compressor Station;
  • the construction of the Gustorzyn Gas Compressor Station;
  • the extension of the Odolanów Gas Compressor Station.
