Polish Briefing: USA wants to create a virtual gas pipeline to Europe

What goes on in Poland on the 20th of December.

USA: We want to create a virtual gas pipeline to Europe

PGNiG signed contracts for LNG supplies with Sempra Energy in the company’s headquarters. The Americans hope to create a virtual gas pipeline between Poland and the USA.

– We have been cooperating with Poland on energy security for years. Today we are creating a virtual gas pipeline that will contribute to the security of the region. Our bonds, however, go beyond gas trade, we also work together to strengthen the security of energy infrastructure in the cyberspace, to protect it from cyber attacks – said Georgette Mosbacher, US Ambassador to Poland.

– I congratulate Poland on work to increase Poland’s energy security. This is a big step to increase American exports to Poland and Europe. This is important due to the diversification of gas sources to Poland and Europe. Last month, Secretary Perry came to Poland in order sign an agreement on dialogue and cooperation in the field of security and energy. We show that the American LNG can contribute to increasing the energy security of Poland and Europe – Deputy US Secretary of State John Sullivan.

Energy security of Poland and Europe

– We are happy that we can help increase Polish energy security. We started talks in December 2016 and we have a long cooperation with PGNiG, we also have a lot of friendships, without which contracts do not work. We are the main LNG trading company in the USA, we have 40 million customers. Supporting energy security is in our DNA. Today’s agreement also contributes to the development of the global LNG market – Sempra Energy Jeffrey W. Martin.

Undersecretary of State in the US Department of Energy Mark Menezes said that 2018 was good for cooperation between Poland and the USA in the field of gas. – It is also the hundredth anniversary of regaining independence by Poland, Poland also regains its energy independence. This also shows the efforts of the American administration for the energy security of Poland and our other allies. Today’s agreement reminds that energy security contributes to overall security. If countries depend on a single supplier, they risk their security and sovereignty – said Menezes. He added that part of the Polish-American energy dialogue is the purchase of an American LNG by Poland. – The US may in the future become half of global oil and gas exports. We praise Poland for the fact that it is developing a regasification infrastructure – said the politician.
