Poland and the US signed a memorandum on energy cooperation

The signing ceremony took place on 9 November 2018 at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. The document was signed by Secretary of State at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister Piotr Naimski and US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry. The parties to the agreement declared their intention to maintain a regular dialogue involving both countries’ administrations and experts in areas related in particular to cybersecurity, nuclear energy, fossil fuels and energy infrastructure.

The Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and the Republic of Poland on a U.S.-Poland Strategic Dialogue on Energy implements a joint statement of the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda and the President of the United States Donald J. Trump issued in Washington on 18 September 2018. It was then that the heads of both countries announced establishment of a Poland-U.S. Dialogue on Energy.

According to the signed document, expert meetings will take place, respectively, in Poland and the USA, and the first meeting is already planned for the beginning of 2019.

Executing the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Dialogue on Energy was preceded by a meeting of the American and Polish delegations dedicated to the President Lech Kaczyński LNG Terminal in Świnoujście. Alongside the Secretary of State at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister Piotr Naimski and the U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry, participants to the meeting included: Tomasz Stępień, the President of Gaz-System, Artur Zawartko, the Vice-President of Gaz-System, Paweł Jakubowski, the President of Polskie LNG, Izabella Łyś-Gorzkowska, the Chairman of the Supervisory Body of Polskie LNG, and also the U.S. Ambassador in Poland, Georgette Mosbacher with her team.

During the meeting, the Minister Piotr Naimski and the U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry also referred to the plans and expectations of both countries in respect of development of the international energy market, the need for strengthening the energy security of the states in the region, as well as the importance of effective addressing the challenges identified in the energy sector.

Gaz-System
