Polish Briefing: Deputy ministers responsible for smog, climate and nuclear dismissed

What goes on in Poland on the 13th of March.

We have to wait for the energy strategy

The energy strategy of Poland is in the internal consultations of the Ministry of Energy. It can still wait there for the country’s final economic strategy.

– Energy policy is being prepared and is in the internal work of the Ministry of Energy – Deputy Minister of Energy Tadeusz Skobel told reporters. – A coherent Polish economic policy is being developed covering all sectors, including energy policy – he added.

The energy strategy of the Republic of Poland has already been promised at the end of 2017 and 2018. The last obstacle was to negotiate with the European Commission the conditions for the introduction of the capacity market in Poland. Although there is a risk that support for coal energy will be reduced against Poland’s expectations, negotiations are under way to minimize the severity of possible changes – BiznesAlert.pl has determined.

Until this settlement, the energy strategy in the internal consultations of the ministry will not go into inter-ministerial consultations. There, the challenge may be a dispute over the conditions of thermo-modernization, standards for the quality of solid fuels, as well as the strategies of other ministries that will be important for the strategy.

Deputy ministers responsible for smog, climate and nuclear dismissed

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki believes that the resignations of deputy ministers adopted yesterday result from the need to improve the work of the government, the Government Information Center (CIR) reported.

Three deputy ministers crucial for the country’s energy and climate policy were dismissed: Andrzej Piotrowski responsible for the Polish Nuclear Power Program, Piotr Woźny dealing with the fight against smog and Paweł Sałek preparing the climate summit in Katowice.

“We are continuing our internal reforms to make the government less political and more clerical. This is why the proposal for a bill on structural changes of the government will soon be sent to the Permanent Committee of RM, “said Morawiecki during yesterday’s speech.

“To a large extent, these changes are not personal or political, just changes that improve the government. The trick is to get the most out of each other, “he added.
