Polish Briefing: Government will have a proxy for cybersecurity. NPP must be consulted with the society

What goes on in Poland on the 16th of March.

Nuclear power must be consulted with the society

Poland is able to build a nuclear power plant, but wants to convince the public – said the energy minister Krzysztof Tchórzewski during yesterday’s press conference.

When asked about the nuclear power, he said that the project is being prepared for so long because it „costs about 70 – 75 billion PLN”. – He maintains that the project is feasible, we are able to cope with it, making the right arrangement is very difficult. The approach to the nuclear power plant has changed since 2016. Then we started looking for the model seriously. We want to convince the public to the project. These decisions are so serious that I must have patience – said the minister. He added that “his dream is that it will happen by the end of March”. – It has to cheer my colleagues, but if there may be delays, I do not know. It is important that the work is moving forward. We have to deal with the issue. Nuclear power is a helping hand from the EU, but the main requirement is a reduction of emissions to 550g/kWh – he added.

There will be a proxy for cybersecurity

The first panel of ECONSEC 2018 under the patronage of BiznesAlert.pl was devoted to cybersecurity. Poland is working on a law on the national cyber security system that will help to implement EU regulations from the NIS directive.

– We plan that the project should go to the Sejm of the Republic of Poland at the beginning of April – said Andrzej Szyszko, head of the Department of Strategy and International Cooperation of the Cybersecurity Department at the Ministry of Digital Affairs. A new architecture of the national security system is to be created, including the government’s representative dealing with this topic. – At the current stage, the bill provides that he will be the undersecretary of state in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

– 21st March is the deadline for submitting comments by Committee members before the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers. The Committee meeting is scheduled for 26 March. If all goes well, then a law committee and the Council of Ministers are waiting for us – the government representative has calculated.
