Polish Briefing: Lotos visited the US energy basin

What goes on in Poland on the 30th of April.

Grupa Lotos delegation to Oklahoma

Lotos is looking for new contracts for the supply of crude oil from the US and wants to expand its knowledge on American experience on the crude oil transfer and processing, hence the company’s delegation visited the state of Oklahoma in April.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that from 8 to 12 April, the representatives of the Lotos Group were staying in Oklahoma i.e; Patryk Demski, Vice President of Investment and Innovation, Jarosław Wittstock, Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Jarosław Kobus, Director of Trade Supply and Optimization.

Together with other members of the delegation and Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Houston they visited, among others, areas where refineries and oil storage facilities are located in Cushing, near Tulsa, Oklahoma. They also paid a visit in Getka Energy, the company which deals with oil processing. Afterwards they had a meeting at Tulsa Port of Catoosa, which is in one of the largest inland ports in the USA, located on the Arkansas River. It enables to transport goods from Oklahoma, e.g. oil to the Gulf of Mexico and further to the whole world. Lotos representatives visited Continental Resources in Oklahoma City, a petroleum mining company and met with Matt Pinnella, Oklahoma’s Deputy Governor, Kenneth Wagner, Oklahoma Energy Secretary, and Mona Taylor and Brooke Wright from the office of Senator James Lankford.

The trip of representatives of Grupa LOTOS S.A. is the next stage of establishing cooperation between the company and US partners, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. The program of the visit included both more advanced negotiations, identification of existing opportunities for storage and transport of crude oil in the state of Oklahoma, as well as establishing contacts with politicians and state administration officials and lobbying activities.

The Getka Energy company operating in Oklahoma was founded by Dariusz Cichocki, who comes from Warsaw. Cichocki develops it very effectively and dynamically. Getka Energy deals with the middle segment of the oil and gas industry – so-called midstream oil, i.e. its storage and transport. It builds and manages pipelines, as well as fuel storage tanks and deals with logistics. Its activities at the national level will be extended for European markets in upcoming years.

Oil from the US will stay in Gdansk for longer

At the end of 2017, Grupa Lotos signed a temporary contract for the supply of crude oil to the refinery in Gdańsk. The contract assumes delivery of a minimum of 5 crude oil cargoes by sea in 2018. In 2017-2018, the company imported and processed several types of crude from the USA. At the beginning of the year, it signed another temporary contract for US crude oil supplies in 2019. The current contract concerns the supply of not less than seven loads of one selected crude type. – The contract is the result of Grupa LOTOS’s continued interest in the US crude oil market, especially in the context of favorable market conditions – emphasized Lotos at the beginning of the year.

Honorary Consulate in Houston is an energy window to the USA

The inauguration of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Houston and talks with representatives of local authorities and American business circles, mainly energy, took place in December 2017. The President of PGNiG, Piotr Woźniak, launched the talks on the LNG supplies from the USA to Poland during the first inaugural visit. Houston and the state of Texas play a key role on the US economic map. The city was called the “capital of the global energy sector”, especially in the area of oil and gas extraction.
