The ambitious goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 90 percent by 2040 may be difficult to accept in Poland, but there are fewer and fewer willing to do so in Germany as well. Last Wednesday the European Commission decided to open an infringement procedure against Poland for failing to completely transpose the EU Industrial Emissions Directive – Onet.pl has reported.

The new government is to establish an Industry Ministry that is set to launch this March. It will share the competences in the energy sector with the Climate Ministry. Interestingly, the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves is to be supervised by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration.

Poland sent back nearly 18 tons of electronic waste to the Netherlands. The garbage included all kinds of printed circuit boards, cases for electrical equipment made of plastic and metals, outlets, computer keyboards, capacitors, CDs, radios. The cargo did not have the appropriate consent from Polish authorities.

 „We want to foster social acceptance for nuclear power,” says Henryk Borczyk, Vice-Chairman of the Board of the Metropolis GZM in an interview with BiznesAlert.pl.

According to data published by Forum Energii, the share of renewables in energy generation broke records a few times in 2023. Combined with PV generation, biomass and hydropower (0.2 TWh each), renewables accounted for 25.3 percent of the generation mix in December. This is 9.4 percentage points more than in the same month of 2022.

The Sejm Committee on Energy, Climate and State Assets gave a positive opinion on the draft budget for 2024 with about PLN 1 billion designated for restructuring mines.

„The investment needs for the energy transition are enormous. For the entire transformation, Poland needs more than one trillion zlotys,” says Wojciech Dąbrowski, president of Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) in an interview for the portal WNP.PL.
