According to data published by Forum Energii, the share of renewables in energy generation broke records a few times in 2023. Combined with PV generation, biomass and hydropower (0.2 TWh each), renewables accounted for 25.3 percent of the generation mix in December. This is 9.4 percentage points more than in the same month of 2022.

On October 1, 2023, the amendments to the law on renewables entered into force. The new rules provide for the support of renewable energy sources in the electricity and heat markets and the promotion of energy clusters and the use of biomethane.

Poland is planning to build a surface landfill for radioactive waste, which is to be ready by the time the new NPP launches. The National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA) said a deep storage facility would also be built. Importantly, the plans do not take into account SMRs and MMRs.
