On March 16th, a conference called „Reviewing the Gas Directive: Opportunities and Challenges” was held in Brussels. Speakers discussed advantages and disadvantages of the new law and implications it may have on the controversial Nord Stream 2 project.

On Wednesday the committee for industry and energy of the European Parliament adopted a stance supporting the draft amendment to the gas directive, which is especially opposed by Nord Stream 2 investors. In the European Parliament there were many opponents to accept the mandate for further negotiations on these regulations.

What goes on in Poland on the 22nd of February.

A review of the Gas Directive is needed to protect the European Union gas market not only because of Nord Stream 2. However, it may discourage the implementation of this project. Jerzy Buzek, former Prime Minister and Chairman of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, speaks of this.
