Urszula Zielińska, a candidate of the Civic Coalition in Warsaw from the Green Party, announced in an interview with Radio Zet that, after taking power, her party will look into the agreement on the construction of the first Polish power plant with Americans. „We need to find out to what degree the agreement is binding, and what penalties we face for breaking it, withdrawing from it,” she said.

„We will agree with Donald Tusk that today the plans related to nuclear energy have one big drawback. They do not have an economic finance account. There is simply no business plan. What we have agreed to is our consensus in the Civic Coalition that, for the first 100 days of the new government, which will have a majority, we will prepare a plan for financing energy based on renewables, and we will prepare what the Polish government did not do, i.e. the plan for the development of nuclear energy,” said Urszula Zielińska when asked whether the Coalition would consider terminating the contract for the construction of the nuclear power plant.

The contract for the project of the first nuclear power plant in Poland was signed on September 27 in Warsaw during a ceremony with the participation of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and US ambassador to Poland Mark Brzeziński. The document was signed by Mateusz Berger, president of Polish Nuclear Power Plants, Patrick Fragman, President of Westinghouse and John Howanitz of Bechtel. This is not a construction contract.

Polish Nuclear Power Plants (PEJ), Westinghouse and Bechtel want to build three AP1000 reactors with the first in 2033 at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino location in Pomerania. KHNP, PGE and ZE PAK want to build two APR1400S by 2036 in Pątnów, Greater Poland.
