The Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority has reported that the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Szczecin issued an environmental decision on the container port in Świnoujście after conducting cross-border consultations with Germany.

German land institutions from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, non-governmental organizations and private individuals participated in the consultations. The meeting of the parties to the cross-border proceedings took place on 20 September in Szczecin. The port representatives and experts answered questions and clarified the doubts of the German side. The purpose of the consultation is to gather the views of those who may be affected by the investment, but they are not binding.

The Polish plan to build a new container port started a lively discussion in Germany. The main reason was the opposition of tourist towns on the island of Uznam and environmental organizations. The Port is scheduled to open in 2028 and will be able to transship up to 2 million TEU per year. Thus, it will be the second most important Polish container port after the Port of Gdanńk.
