Gaz-System has announced that two bidders will compete in the final stage of the tender for delivering a FSRU to the Gulf of Gdańsk.
„Gaz-System has entered into the so-called term sheet agreement with two shipowners, specifying the framework conditions for the delivery and use of the first FSRU unit (Floating Storage Regasification Unit), which is to act as a regasification terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk,” the Polish company said. „The tender procedure will continue into its second stage to select one supplier from two pre-selected suppliers with whom a Time Charter Party will be signed. The start of regasification services is planned for early 2028,” the press release explained.
The two competitors are BW LNG of South Korea’s BW Group and Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines. Previously TrendWinds.com suggested that BW LNG would win. „We are only one step away from signing the contract for the charter of the FSRU unit, i.e. the floating LNG terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk. Poland has gained a lot thanks to consistently developing its energy infrastructure. The implementation of the FSRU project complements the long-term strategy of diversifying the supply lines for natural gas and building gas security in Poland and the region. It is a counterweight to Russian supplies in the region and gives new opportunities for our country’s economic development,” said Anna Łukaszewska-Trzeciakowska, the Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure.
Gaz-System reports that the FSRU unit will be adapted to carry out the regasification process at the level of 6.1 billion cubic meters per year. The company has already signed a contract for the use of the entire regasification capacity offered for this unit. It is worth mentioning that market research is also underway on the FSRU2 unit with a maximum capacity of 4.5 billion cubic meters annually for the needs of the neighboring markets.
