Polish government and strategic companies in the energy sector are waiting for the appointment of a plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure. Discussions are ongoing, but there is no resolution yet.
BiznesAlert.pl’s sources have divulged two unofficial names that are on the table: Andrzej Czerwiński, former Minister of State Treasury, and Maciej Bando, former President of the Energy Regulatory Office. Allegedly talks with them about the position are ongoing. Once appointed the plenipotentiary would work with the Climate Ministry and would hanle the following companies: Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE, Poland’s grid operator), Gaz-System, PERN and Polish Nuclear Power Plants.
The first plenipotentiary in history was Piotr Naimski, when due to EU regulations it was necessary to separate the supervision of such companies from the regulatory policy of the ministry responsible for energy. Then there were Mateusz Berger, Anna Łukaszewska-Trzeciakowska and Adam Guibourge-Czetwertyński. Donald Tusk’s government’s talks on the issue have so far failed to produce a nomination.
