According to Dziennik Gazeta Prawna (DGP) daily, the new government may seek cooperation with France in the construction of a second nuclear power plant in Poland.

According to the newspaper, Poland may partner up with France’s EDF to build its second nuclear power plant. „There is a political will to entrust this project to them,” DGP quoted a source from the leadership of one of the offices.

Electricite de France (EDF) is one of the leaders in nuclear energy in Europe, operating a total of 69 reactors and employing around 50,000 people. The French were one of the three candidates (along with the US and South Korea) to build the first nuclear power plant in Poland, but Poland signed a deal with America. In result the construction is to start in 2026 at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site where three AP1000 reactors will be built with the first one to be completed in 2033.

The newspaper also mentions a public-private project in Pątnów (Konin district), where another nuclear power plant is to be built thanks to the cooperation of Zygmunt Solorz (ZE PAK), PGE and the Korean KHNP. In the public debate there were voices that the new government may not want to continue the project. „Donald Tusk may seek an agreement with Zygmunt Solorz on Pątnów,” the DGP said. According to the announcement, a power plant with two APR1400 reactors with a total capacity of 2.8 GW would be built in the Konin district.
