According to dr. Mariusz Ruszel from the Rzeszów University of Technology and the Ignacy Łukaszewicz Institute of Energy Policy, Germany joins the energy partnership with Russia to receive gas cheaper than other European Union countries. He appeared at the Third National Scientific Conference: „Energy policy. Pillars and the prospect of development” under the patronage of BiznesAlert.pl.
– The Russian Federation can provide them with what no one else can provide, ie a higher price for other European countries – pointed out the scientist. He stressed, however, that Germany is also intensively cooperating with the USA in the field of ISO standards. – They create reality by jointly creating definitions with the United States – he added.
In his opinion, Germany is the only European country that consumes 80 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually, they are able to receive 313-340 billion cubic meters of this raw material every year. After the addition of Nord Stream 2 (55 billion cubic meters per year), the German gas system is able to take as much gas as the 28 European Union countries need. – A Russian gas distribution center could be created there for Europe – he said.
– The European Union strives to build a common market. The main beneficiary will be Germany. The more connections, the better these billions of cubic meters will spread to neighboring countries – said Ruszel.
Germany also cooperates with Norway. – Submarine cables are currently being built. Norway is the only country with pumped storage power plants to store energy. Electricity in Norway is very cheap. Integrating Scandinavia with Germany allows us to create an additional power hub for Europe – he said. In addition, there is a postulate to shut down nuclear power plants in Europe advanced by Germany. – Then one socket will be created, from which the electricity, just like gas, will spread throughout Europe – said the scientist. In his opinion, it can be seen on the energy price maps. Manufacturers will be located in Germany and Scandinavia, and the recipients – peripheral – will be around.
The German policy is supported by the EU energy and climate policy that favors the energy model in Germany, the construction of a common EU market, differences in the price of natural gas, energy partnerships with Russia and Norway. According to Dr. Ruszel, whether Germany will implement its plan will depend on who will create jobs and will have a strong position in the market. – Who will be addicted to other products and goods? – he asked rhetorically.
