Grupa Azoty’s fight for cadmium continues
The Azoty Group is fighting competition with innovation. It must also fight regulations that, according to the president Wojciech Wardacki, become the next field of this competition.
The President of the Group spoke about innovative chemistry on a European scale. – We strive to offer ancillary services. This is not fashion, but we see the benefits of working with startups. These are satellite images, surface and land surveys, fertilization, and an educational sphere for farmers that allows to offer products – said Wojciech Wardacki.
In 2017, the strategy was changed and operationalized. – We place great emphasis on investments that will increase our potential and allow us to jump to a higher level of development – emphasized the president of Azoty. – We want to counteract negative phenomena, for example in the field of cadmium. The competition has moved to the regulatory sphere. Our actions are discreet but consistent. We have special teams. The effects of our activities were visible in the European Parliament. There were not enough votes. A few months ago it seemed something unreal. We had seven votes of difference. In this case, we operate together with the Polish government – said the president of Azoty.
– Diversification is necessary – assured Wardacki. In his opinion, the persistence of fertilizers in the sector is unfavorable in the long run.
The EC will co-finance the synchronization of the Baltic states
On April 18 at an informal meeting of the Energy Council in Sofia, an agreement was signed to co-finance the synchronization of the power grid systems of the Baltic States with the continental Europe system from the funds of the Connecting Europe Facility.
– Synchronization is a key step towards the physical integration of the Baltic States with the energy system of continental Europe and is an important contribution to the solidarity and energy security of the European Union. This is one of the most emblematic projects of the energy union – said the European Commission in its communication.
According to the EU Commissioner for Energy and Climate of Miguel Arias Canete, the Commission is working to implement strategic infrastructure projects in the energy sector to end energy isolation in the Baltic Sea region.
At the beginning of May 2017, the prime ministers of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland reached a preliminary agreement on synchronization. What is important, the minister of energy of Lithuania spoke about the possibility of signing the memorandum in June. Unfortunately, during the meeting of the Council of the European Union Estonia and Lithuania did not agree on the method of synchronization. At the beginning of February, the vice-president of the European Commission for Energy Union, Maroš Šefčovič, announced that the synchronization plan should be created by June. Otherwise there is the risk of losing Brussels financial support for this purpose, as reported by BiznesAlert.pl. At the end of March, Poland and the Baltic countries agreed that synchronization would take place using the existing connection with Poland.
