Polish Briefing: Infrastructure for electromobility to be ready by 2020

What goes on in Poland on the 27th of September.

Tchórzewski: Infrastructure for electromobility will be ready by 2020

The energy minister, Krzysztof Tchórzewski, announced that construction of the charging infrastructure for electric cars will begin soon. It will be ready by 2021.

– We want to be a leader in the development of alternative fuels infrastructure in Poland – said Tchórzewski. New legal solutions to support this development are to be created. – I was asked why we talk about electromobility so much and so little happened. It happened a lot. Provisions related to the state aid system have been passed, which must be notified to the European Commission. All these solutions are at the stage of notification processes, because if we have a national framework for the development of alternative fuels infrastructure, or the Law on the Low-Emission Transport Fund, they are in discussion in the European Commission – he said.

– The infrastructure network for charging electric cars by 2020 should be sufficient. I hope that charging points will be created at service stations faster than gas supply points were created – said the guest of the Nafta-Gaz-Chemia conference.

– As for the Low-Carbon Transport Fund, we want to give support at an initial stage to make this infrastructure come into being. The assumption is that full availability for an electric car in Poland will be, if there will be 6,000 charging points. On this basis, this law was prepared – Minister Tchórzewski told us.

The minister declared that the Fund’s support should be ready for use from January 1, 2019. – From January 1, everything will be able to function commercially – he announced.

Nord Stream 2: construction started in German waters

A spokesman for Nord Stream 2, responsible for the gas pipeline project of the same name, informed the media that the preparatory work had been completed and the construction of the gas pipeline in German coastal waters was commenced.

Jens Muller reported that the Castoro 10 ship has already laid 30-35 km of pipes in the coastal waters of Greifswalder Bodden. – In July, Castoro 10 appeared on the site, as reported in the press release, the preparatory work began, the ship was hauling the pipe behind the pipe and then they were stretched out on the shore to combine them with objects on land. This work is over. Now Castoro 10 has sailed east and has already arranged about 30 km two strands, or 15 km each – the spokesperson revealed.

The works are carried out according to him in shallow waters with a depth of 4-10 meters. In the coming months, another ship will arrive at the construction site and begin working on the deep. The German part of Nord Stream 2 is to be ready by the end of 2018.

– We have a time limit under the permit obtained. This is due to the fact that the Baltic Sea is important for herring, which is growing during this period. We must finish work on German waters before the end of the year. It’s not only about laying pipes, but also digging ditches. Therefore, work is being done when laying pipes in ditches and in the meantime they are flooding. I am convinced that we can deal with everything – said Muller.

He reminded that similar works are being carried out on the Finnish section, where over 30 km of the gas pipeline have already been laid. – If you look at the length of pipes stacked in the waters, it is about 70 km. In Germany, two strands together are 30-35 km. I can not say exactly because I did not see today’s data – said the spokesperson.

The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project assumes the construction of a bus with a capacity of 55 billion cubic meters annually until the end of 2019. Supporters count on cheap gas from Russia. Opponents are afraid of consolidating the dominant position of Russian Gazprom.
