The Polish Ministry of Energy: We are still investigating whether there is a need to build another gas terminal
The Polish Ministry of Energy informed that it has not made decision on installation of new FSRU gas terminal in the Gdańsk Bay.
– Poland is analyzing the construction of a floating LNG terminal. We are checking whether we need such investment, but it seems that the project might be implemented, said Minister of Energy Krzysztof Tchórzewski at the session of the Energy and Treasury Committee of Polish Sejm.
He believes that terminal might be constructed in the Puck Bay or Gdańsk Bay.
– Preparations are underway and we are carrying out analyzes. There are many indications that there may be a need to build such an installation. It is important that we have appropriate gas surplus. Bearing in mind the number of contracts announced by PGNiG, such a need may emerge. We consider that possibility but we have not made any decision so far. It seems that the new terminal might serve as an additional guarantee that gas supplies to Poland will not be at stake. The new installation could be the element of building a gas hub in Poland, said Minister Tchórzewski.
Earlier, the Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure, Piotr Naimski, had said that a gas terminal should be established, in the form of FSRU, a floating unit for gas storage and liquefaction, which would be stationed in the Gdansk Bay.
The Polish Ministry of Energy is talking to US and other partners about nuclear energy and expects foreign investments
Minister of Energy informs about talks on the construction of a nuclear power plant and its financing
– We are talking about building a nuclear power plant not only with the United States but also with other countries. In addition to the technological commitment, we also expect from our potential partner a capital involvement, – said Minister at the session of the Energy and Treasury Committee of Polish Sejm.
He stressed that the construction of a power plant is an expensive project.
– In fact the most profitable solution for Poland would be to have possibly the highest Poland’s own contribution, because your own money is always cheaper than in case there is a need to gain it on the market. This issue will determine who we will cooperate with. This is the starting point in our talks. We are still staying in touch with our possible contractors, he stated.
