What goes on in Poland on the 19th of June.
Kłossowski: Geopolitics makes that we have to prepare ourselves together for an attack in cyberspace
President of PSE explained why in his opinion international exercises to protect energy from cyber threats are necessary.
– The conference is a continuation of successful PolEx exercises from autumn 2018. These exercises were successful because they showed a competence gap in solving cyber security problems. They showed that we were unable to solve all tasks on time. This is a great news, because the bar was set high and one should learn to jump through high crossbars, not to massage complexes, to be sure that in a real danger situation we will certainly manage – said Eryk Kłossowski, President of Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne during Cybersecurity Conference for Energy Sector organized by CERT PSE.
– I most envy Israel the famous unit 480, which as a forge of cyber security cadres creates an unlikely community that allows people to trust each other, to prove themselves in battle. Our exercises serve this purpose: building trust, thin threads of cooperation, cyber-security community in Poland and the region – explained the president of PSE.
– Certainly, a major attack with a large geopolitical tension will be multi-vector. It strikes not only in the Polish power infrastructure, but also in other sectors of strategic infrastructure, but also in the sectors of neighboring countries – Kłossowski warned. – Such a multi-vector and distracted attack would be able to paralyze the lives of at least several communities. That’s why we have to work together, get to know each other and build mutual trust.
Naimski: International cooperation is the key to effective cyber defense
– I believe that threats in cyberspace are one of the most important problems to be solved – said Piotr Naimski, Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Enfrastructure during the Cybersecurity Conference for Energy Sector opening organized by the CERT of Polish Power Grid.
– We must act as a community. This is the only way to defend against cyber threats. We cannot act in isolation, we have to communicate between sectors. Energy infrastructure links them. This is the way to bring danger into the center of our system – pointed out Naimski.
– Cooperation between our cybersecurity centers and colleagues from partner countries is the only way to defend. It’s the beginning of a job, not the end. I hope that this conference will set directions for cooperation, create opportunities for its deepening, and above all it is important that we get to know each other. The exchange of information is the basis for the success of our plan – concluded Naimski.
