– At the moment we are open to renewable and prosumer energy, because we have obtained energy security in the form of the capacity market. Thanks to this, we can afford the development of renewable energy sources – said Minister of Energy Krzysztof Tchórzewski at the XXIX Economic Forum in Krynica.

A balance between renewable energy sources and conventional sources

Tchórzewski noted that everybody expects energy security at the moment: – Everyone has greater requirements regarding the stability and volumes of electricity supply. The broadly understood energy sector is always in a difficult situation, because today we must think about what will be needed in 10-12 years. Meanwhile, the life cycle of a democratic state is only four years – said the minister and stressed that the energy sector must operate in a rational way, based on systemic analyzes. – All energy investments are long-term, based on large financial resources. If the climate policy of the European Union assumes intensive transformation, it means intensive investment – he said.

Minister Tchórzewski drew attention to the issue of transformation of mining regions: – Poland has been undergoing this transformation for years. Therefore, in the case of Poland, the European Commission has agreed to a transitional period – we are putting into operation modern and safe coal-fired power plants. For now, we are ahead of expectations – every two years there is about one large power block in Poland in energy consumption – he said.

– At the moment we are opening ourselves strongly to renewable and prosumer energy, because we have obtained energy certainty in the form of the capacity market. Thanks to this, we can afford the development of renewable energy sources. If we want to have 40 GW in renewable energy, we must have 40 GW in conventional energy. The energy system of Germany is constructed in the same way. Polish society is becoming richer and can afford the development of renewable energy. Thanks to this, we can meet the goals of the European Commission when it comes to the share of renewable energy in our mix – said Krzysztof Tchórzewski.

– We must find ourselves in a world where we focus strongly on renewable energy sources. We want to go the step we have negotiated, we do everything to achieve the goals set before us. This is not an easy task, because we have to build new conventional units, in addition to the power plant in Ostrołęka, gas blocks will also be created. We are opening ourselves to offshore wind farms, onshore wind energy has been slowed down because that was the social will and we are a democratic state. We have opened up to prosumer energy, and looking at interest, I predict that the results here will be better than in other countries – he concluded.
