Polish Briefing: Lithuania loses to Gazprom. Poland waits for the verdict

What goes on in Poland on the 19th of February.

The Stockholm Tribunal upheld the 2016 unfavorable judgment for Lithuania issued by the court of appeal at the time. The situation in Lithuania was complicated, because before the liberalization of that market Gazprom played a dual role: gas supplier and shareholder of its recipient, Lietuvos Dujos.

PGNiG argues in an arbitration with Gazprom regarding a retroactive reduction in the price of gas supplies in the Yamal contract. Along with the Lithuanian agreement, it is rated as one of the most expensive in Europe. Meanwhile, the Russians are offering discounts to other customers, not just as a result of arbitration. Poles have been arguing in court with the Russians since 2015. PGNiG announced that the judgment may be announced at the turn of February and March 2020.
