More and more gas from the EU goes to Ukraine

According to the data of the Ukrainian gas transmission system operator, in the seven months of 2020, Ukraine received 21 percent more natural gas than in the corresponding period last year, and imports from Poland were as much as 33 percent higher.

The Ukrainian gas network operator reports that from the beginning of the year to the end of July, 9.2 billion cubic meters of gas were transferred to this country from Europe, i.e. by 1.6 billion cubic meters more than in the same period last year (21 percent) and as much as 48 percent more than the average in 2016-2019. Most gas in this period was delivered to Ukraine from Slovakia – 5.4 billion m per cent. (+ 16 percent compared to the same period last year). Hungary is second on the list – 2.7 billion cubic meters. (+ 26 percent), and the third Poland – 1.1 billion cubic meters. (+ 33 percent).

Since the beginning of this year, the so-called virtual reverse, through which 2.6 billion cubic meters were delivered to Ukraine in the first six months. gas, which accounted for 28 percent of total imports. Through the virtual reverse, most gas reached Ukraine from Hungary – 1.7 billion cubic meters. 0.7 billion cubic meters were imported from Poland to Ukraine in this way, and from Slovakia – 0.2 billion cubic meters.

According to the data of the Ukrainian gas TSO, in July 2020, natural gas imports to Ukraine amounted to 2.1 billion cubic meters, i.e. 9 percent (183 million cubic meters) more than in July 2019 and 18 percent (320 million cubic meters) more than in June 2020. The increase in gas imports to Ukraine is largely the result of the growing demand of European companies for gas storage services in Ukrainian facilities. From the beginning of the year, they received 5.4 billion cubic meters from Europe.
