Prime Minister Morawiecki and the head of the CDU Armin Laschet talked in Warsaw about energy security

Yesterday Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki met in Warsaw with Armin Laschet, Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia and CDU candidate to succeed Angela Merkel. The main reason for the meeting was the celebration of the 77th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, but one of the topics was energy.

“On the symbolic day of August 1, I met with the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, the chairman of the CDU Armin Laschet, who will take part in the ceremonies commemorating the Warsaw Uprising,” Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki wrote on Facebook. He added that “current international issues, including the issues of Europe’s energy security” were raised during the talks. In turn, the German ambassador to Poland, Arndt Freytag von Loringhoven, announced on Twitter that he and Armin Laschet laid wreaths at the monument of the Warsaw Uprising.

According to Solidarna Polska, the EU climate policy may lead to the closure of Polish cement plants

Activists of the Solidarna Polska party warned on Friday in Nowiny near Kielce, that the European Union’s climate policy could lead to the closure of Polish cement plants. They intend to intervene in this matter with the European Commission in Brussels.

Currently, over 4.000 people are employed at Polish cement plants. A big chunk of those jobs are located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship (Cement Plant Małogoszcz, Cement Plant Nowiny, Cement Plant Ożarów). According to politicians from Solidarna Polska, these jobs are at risk. They believe that the effects of the European Union’s climate policy may be catastrophic not only for Polish cement plants, but also for the entire economy. “We don’t agree to that. From the very beginning, as Solidarna Polska, we are talking about Poland’s economic sovereignty, which is why we will defend cement plants and jobs, including those located in the Świętokrzyskie voivodship,” assured Mariusz Gosek, MP from Solidarna Polska.
