Protest at the headquarters of PGG

On December 20, 2021, the miners’ protest began at the headquarters of Polska Grupa Górnicza (PGG). Trade unions are demanding compensation for working on Saturdays and Sundays, informs the Rzeczpospolita daily.

„A group of 50 union members from Sierpień 80 trade union entered the headquarters of Polska Grupa Górnicza in Katowice in the early morning hours. They wanted to talk about wages, but it was the beginning of the ongoing occupation. Protesters demand compensation for extraction on Saturdays and Sundays,” Rzeczpospolita reports.
In November, PGG informed that since September, the mines have been operating seven days a week to secure additional coal orders from the Polish energy sector. Trade unions are demanding remuneration for additional work, the newspaper notes.

The anti-inflation shield caused a decrease in the average gasoline price in Poland

The anti-inflation shield caused a drop in the average price of gasoline at stations in Poland from PLN 5.93 per liter on Friday 19 December, to PLN 5.71 per liter a day later.

This has been caused by the anti-inflation shield, which is supposed to temporarily reduce VAT and excise duty on electricity, natural gas and motor fuels in order to reduce the impact of the rising inflation in Poland.
