Poland wants coal to be a transition fuel on the way to the atom

Poland does not want to become dependent on gas, so it is seeking a reduced tariff for coal in the European Commission until it develops nuclear energy.

– We are striving for the European Commission to recognize coal as a transitional fuel for Poland – said Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Ireneusz Zyska at a press conference. – Coal-based energy blocks, i.e. 200 MW units in Silesia, will allow us to stabilize the energy system, provided that they are modernized, until nuclear energy takes a foothold in Poland, said Minister Ireneusz Zyska at a press conference
Liberalization of the distance act is an opportunity for turbine factories

The Deputy Minister of Climate and the Environment has announced that the liberalization of the current regulations that are halting the development of onshore wind will increase the chances of building turbine factories in Poland.

– The 10H rule remains, but in local spatial development plans turbines may be allowed to be built closer to residential buildings, but the distance cannot be shorter than 500 m. We are introducing a mandatory minimum distance from high voltage electricity grid – 2H (twice the height), or 3D – 3 times the diameter of the turbine – the minister explained.

– There is an obligation to consult with residents and other stakeholders in the vicinity of such investments. The decision itself will depend on the residents – said Ireneusz Zyska at the press conference. – If we want to achieve the goal of energy sovereignty, we should produce as much energy as possible in the country – he argued.

– It should be said that the world’s giants of wind turbine production are very seriously considering the location of such turbine factories in Poland for off- and on- shore turbines– said Zyska.
