What goes on in Poland on the 31st of August.

Poland will spend 3 percent of its GDP on defense

On Tuesday, a press conference was held at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, the topic of which was the state budget for 2023. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced, among other news, an increase in defense spending.

– The Council of Ministers has adopted an ambitious budget for hard times. It is to help families in the difficult inflation situation after the pandemic, the war, high prices of energy and energy resources – Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at the press conference.

He announced an increase in defense spending to 3 percent of GDP. – We have planned a revolution here. Next year, we will spend PLN 98 billion on defense, and we plan an additional PLN 30 billion on purchases of weapons abroad. Thanks to stable public finances, we have the opportunity to strengthen the army and recruit 20,000 new soldiers – said Morawiecki.

Gas consumption in Poland will not exceed 18 bcm

– Gas consumption in Poland is estimated this year at less than 18 bcm, while in 2021 it was about 20 billion cubic meters, which means that individual sectors are adapting to this situation – Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at a press conference.

– When I look at the reaction of individual sectors, I can see that today they are adapting to this extraordinary situation. The best evidence is the forecast gas consumption this year. Last year it was about 20 billion cubic meters, this year it will be below 18 billion cubic meters, so we can say: a significant decrease in gas consumption with continued economic growth, Morawiecki said during a press conference.
