Poland faces record inflation due to the energy crisis
Inflation hit a record 16.1 percent this month. Its growth is much more rapid than in the previous year. The reason is the skyrocketing increase in energy commodity prices.
Inflation in Poland has been climbing since 2020 when the pandemic hit. In 2021 the indicator saw a steady and unstoppable growth from 2.5 percent in January to close to 9 percent in December. The reasons behind this increase include difficulties in the flow of goods, caused by, for example, lockdowns in some countries, causing interruptions in the supply chain. However, while in the previous year inflation grew by almost seven percent, this year we have a similar increase, only in eight months. According to the latest data from the Central Statistical Office of Poland (GUS), at the end of August this year inflation reached 16.1 percent. It is not only the highest in Poland since 1997, but also one of the highest in Europe today. One does not have to look far for the sources of this increase.
Donald Tusk supports nuclear power plant and 2050 climate neutrality goal
During the talks with the participants of the Campus Poland of the Future event, former Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that in the process of decarbonisation of economies there is no alternative to nuclear: – In the next 20 years there is no real alternative to true decarbonisation than energy from a nuclear power plant – said the chairman of Civic Platform.
Donald Tusk added that he would like Poland to achieve the goal of climate neutrality by 2050.
