„Intel’s planned investment near Wrocław is an opportunity to create the most technologically advanced semiconductor supply chain in Europe,” said Development Minister Waldemar Buda during a meeting in Santa Clara, USA, with Intel executives.

„During his latest visit to the US, Minister Buda visited Santa Clara to talk to Intel VP for   Global Supply Chain Operations Jackie Sturm and VP, General Manager Technology and Manufacturing Strategic Planning,” the Ministry said last Friday in a statement.

The Minister stressed that Intel’s planned investment near Wroclaw „is an opportunity to create a comprehensive and most technologically advanced semiconductor supply chain in Europe and a modern workplace for Polish engineers.”

In June, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and minister Janusz Cieszyński announced the largest ever foreign direct investment in Poland. „The Silicon Valley tech giant will invest nearly PLN 20 billion in a semiconductor integration and testing facility near Wrocław,” it was stated.

The deciding factors behind locating the investment in Poland included infrastructure facilities and the proximity of a strong technical university. „The production staff alone will amount to over 2 thousand employees, mostly highly qualified specialists and engineers,” it was said. „Several thousand additional jobs will also be created thanks to the sole construction of the facility. More employees will be hired by suppliers,” it was emphasized.

Intel is one of the world’s leading manufacturers in the semiconductor industry. „The processors are essential in manufacturing for all sectors of the electronics industry. Mobile phones, laptops, game consoles, microwaves and refrigerators operate using semiconductor components such as integrated chips, diodes and transistors,” it was said. „Intel’s investment integrates the Polish economy into the global supply chain in the most technologically dynamic industry of the 21st century,” the Ministry said.
