Baltic Pipe: 83 kilometers of gas pipeline ready for construction

GAZ-SYSTEM has obtained three more decisions enabling the construction of a gas pipeline interconnecting the Baltic Pipe with the National Gas Transmission System. The permits issued by the governor of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship concern the gas pipeline sections between Niechorze, Płoty and Goleniów. They enable the company to begin construction work.

The first permit issued by the governor of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship concerns the 42-kilometre section from the Płoty Node to the Goleniów Compressor Station, and the second one concerns the 36.5-kilometre section from the Konarzewo Receiving Terminal to the Płoty Gas Transmission Node. The third permit concerns the 4.5-kilometre section from Niechorze to the Konarzewo Receiving Terminal. The gas pipelines will have the nominal diameters of DN 900 and DN 1000. Earlier this year, GAZ-SYSTEM also obtained a permit for the construction of all other ground-based structures on the route of this investment.

“We are only missing one more permit for the construction of the onshore part of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline in Poland – the one concerning approximately 90 metres of the pipeline from “the first dry welded joint” to Niechorze. Efficient implementation of the subsequent stages is possible thanks to the involvement of the governor of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship,” said Tomasz Stępień, Chair of the Management Board of GAZ-SYSTEM.

The planned gas pipeline interconnecting the offshore pipeline with the National Gas Transmission System will have the following course:
• a DN 900 pipeline section from the place of interconnection with the offshore pipeline to the Block Unit in Niechorze, together with the block unit,
• a DN 900 pipeline section from the Niechorze Block Unit to the Konarzewo Receiving Terminal – Rewal, Trzebiatów and Karnice communes,
• a DN 1000 pipeline section from the Konarzewo Receiving Terminal to the Płoty Gas Transmission Node – Karnice, Trzebiatów, Gryfice and Płoty communes,
• a DN 1000 pipeline section between Płoty and Goleniów – Płoty, Nowogard, Osina, Goleniów and Maszewo communes.

The investment is part of the Baltic Pipe Project, the purpose of which is to create a new gas supply corridor on the European market. The project consists of 5 components. One of them envisages expansion and modernisation of the Polish gas transmission system. As a result of implementation of this part of the investment, the offshore pipeline will be interconnected with the existing transmission system through construction of pipelines between Niechorze, Płoty and Goleniów as well as between Goleniów and Lwówek, a compressor station in Gustorzyń and expansion of the compressor station in Goleniów and Odolanów.

Due to the strategic importance of the investment, the pipelines and the accompanying infrastructure for all stages of the Baltic Pipe will be constructed under the so-called Special Purpose Gas Act.
