Buk: The EU ETS should prioritize investments that contribute to decarbonisation

How should the European Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) work? It was the subject of a webinar organized by ERCST which Wanda Buk, Vice President of the Management Board of PGE, took part in.

– The EU ETS is to distribute funds for decarbonisation in the European Union. In 2019 alone, these funds supported the Polish budget with EUR 2.5 billion. However, it also means a stream of money from the east of the EU to the west, where not so many emissions permits are needed. That is why we are calling for a more sustainable and just system that prioritizes the investments needed for the EU’s goals. In our opinion, funds for the modernization of the energy sector should be significantly increased and they should take into account different starting points of individual Member States of the European Union – said Wanda Buk.
