Rokai, which was founded to complete Nord Stream 2 in defiance of U.S. sanctions, leased and used Rostock’s land on a much larger scale than previously thought.

As early as December 2020, Rokai applied to Rostock City Council and Mayor Claus Ruhe Madsen, who is now Minister of Economy in the Land of Schleswig-Holstein, and asked for support. It was then agreed that Rostock would function as a warehouse for stones, building materials and possibly also pipes for the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

The Ostsee-Zeitung newspaper reports that the city of Rostock was to enter into a business relationship with Rokai in March 2021 through a controversial climate protection foundation. „The MV Climate Protection Foundation commissioned the newly established Rokai company to „bunk” the ships. This, in turn, leased from the city an area for this purpose – the so – called „Mageb” Quay, designed for particularly heavy load,” reports Ostsee-Zeitung. The annual lease of these port areas cost 1.7 million euros.

Rostock City Council accuses politicians and Rokai of knowingly cheating because a document submitted to it stated that Rokai was engaged in services for the offshore industry. Then the lease was supposed to cover 5600 square meters, but in fact Rokai stored material for Nord Stream 2 on an area of 50 thousand square meters in Rostock.

The government of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig, founded the climate foundation, which, under the guise of pro-climate and educational projects, completed the construction of Nord Stream 2 in defiance of U.S. sanctions.
