Denmark ensures continued support for the Baltic Pipe

During the meeting of the EU Energy Council, deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński met with the Danish Minister of Climate Dan Jørgensen. The topic of the informal meeting was the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline.

Minister Jørgensen reiterated the Danish engagement in the Baltic Pipe project. “He stated that the Danish operator Energinet.dk was working diligently on ways to meet all of the environmental requirements and to ensure that the project is completed on time,” the Ministry of Climate and Environment has reported.

On May 31 the Danish Environment and Food Appeal Committee revoked the environmental permit that had been granted on July 12, 2019 by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. The case was referred for re-examination by this office. The transmission system operator is working on a plan for a controlled temporary suspension of construction works. It is also in close dialogue with the many different contractors working on the Baltic Pipe to ensure the safe closure of construction sites until work is resumed after re-approval.

Morawiecki: The Baltic Pipe project is not in jeopardy in the long run

According to Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, the Baltic Pipe project is not in jeopardy in the long run. “Indeed, in the last few days, the Danish Environmental Agency has ordered the work to be stopped for a while because of the habitats of mice and bats that are found there,” he said.

“I think that this investment is not threatened in the long term, but indeed in the last few days the Danish Environmental Agency has ordered the work to be stopped for some time – I hope for a few months – because of the habitats of mice and bats that are there. I can only express my great desire that these analytical works will end soon,” the Prime Minister said on Friday in Szczecin.

“Of course, we respect all species of mice and bats, but at the same time this investment is absolutely critical for the energy sovereignty not only of Poland, sovereignty in the sense of preventing Russian gas blackmail, to put it very simply. We will certainly complete this investment, but I want us to finish it ahead of time or on time, and not even six months late,” he emphasized.
