Polish Briefing: Energy strategy needs to be more flexible, says climate minister

What goes on in Poland on the 12th of August.

Energy strategy needs to be more flexible, says climate minister

– The method of preparing the energy policy will have to change and become more flexible, because the transition is faster and we have to keep up with the strategic documents with the changing reality and technologies – convinces Minister of Climate Michał Kurtyka in a commentary for BiznesAlert.pl.

BiznesAlert.pl asked the Minister of Climate, Michał Kurtyka, about the date of adopting the energy strategy, i.e. Poland’s Energy Policy until 2040 (PEP2040). – I hope as soon as possible. It is a document that aims to set goals, and the changes that are happening are very quick. Let’s take a look at the photovoltaic revolution. In 2018, at the time when PEP2040 was established, the NPS had less than 500 MW in PV, and today we have over 2,200 MW. It can be assumed that 100 MW will be added per month. This is the effect of the last two years, and PEP2040 strongly defines consultations by law – Michał Kurtyka tells us.

– In other words, the assumptions can be modified, but within a certain range, because, for example, an environmental impact assessment and other permits are being prepared. Of course, we want to show details, but I have the impression that the way of preparing the energy policy will have to change and become more flexible, because the transformation is faster and we have to follow the changing reality and technologies with strategic documents – he adds.
