Meeting of the President of the Management Board of PGE with the Programme Director of Greenpeace
Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna met with Paweł Szypulski, Programme Director of Greenpeace Polska. The meeting took place after the press conference organised by Greenpeace in front of the headquarters of PGE in Warsaw.
After the press conference organised by Greenpeace, Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE, has invited Paweł Szypulski, Programme Director of Greenpeace, to the headquarters of PGE. During their conversation the President of the Management Board of PGE and the Director of Greenpeace have agreed as to the fact that the power sector in Poland should be going in the green direction, meaning a just energy transition based on renewable energy sources. However, the PGE and Greenpeace see different roads to reaching this goal. The President of the PGE has pointed out the need for a rational spread of the changes over time and the resulting very important social aspect of the energy transition process as well as the fact that the European Union is allocating too small funds to the energy transition in Poland. The Programme Director of Greenpeace has stressed that he supports PGE’s investments in wind farms, both onshore and offshore, however, he pointed out that the change of the energy mix from the power system based on conventional sources to a power system based on renewable sources should be happening much faster. Greenpeace, basing on the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as well as on independent studies of the energy sector, among others, the recently published Instrat Foundation’s study, demands coal phase out by 2030.
The Greenpeace’s conference in front of the headquarters of PGE concerned the lawsuit filed by the organisation against PGE GiEK, demanding the company to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions strategy by 2030.
