What goes on in Poland on the 30th of April.

Morawiecka: Offshore regulation is behind us. Now it’s time for implementation

“The regulatory sphere for the development of offshore wind farms is now clear and orderly. It shows clear goals and operationalization through documents. We have already adopted directional documents. It is about the PSE grid development plan, the decision on the connection of offshore wind farms, as well as the regulation on the maximum price and the sea area development plan,” said Monika Morawiecka, president of PGE Baltica, during the EuroPOWER 2021 conference.

According to Morawiecka, the regulatory and legal stage has ended. “Now it is the investors’ turn to implement projects and supply energy to the grid on time in accordance with the contract with PSE. The operator’s plans include 6 GW of capacity before 2030, and if so, then we as developers must meet the deadlines. With high prices of CO2 emission allowances, we need offshore wind farms as soon as possible. Now we as PGE are optimizing the schedule and budget to complete projects at the most competitive price. We want to minimize the risk,” Morawiecka said.

Kowalski: If the EU taxonomy does not include gas, we will be in trouble

“I would very much like the taxonomy to enable and allow EU funds to be spent on the expansion of the gas network – be it transmission or distribution – we hope that it will be so, otherwise we will be in a lot of trouble. A large portfolio of clients, including smaller heating plants, district heating plants are already knocking at our doors, and we are intensively preparing to serve them,” said Jakub Kowalski, member of the management board of Polska Spółka Gazownictwa, during the EuroPOWER 2021 conference.

“Of course, I would like the transition to renewable energy to take place quickly, both in terms of individual and system heating, but I think we are all aware and realistic that it will not happen too soon. When we talk to economic entities, colleagues from state-owned companies, or to local governments, we see a huge interest in gas in the context of the modernization and transformation of heating. We are aware that in the coming years we will be such a “switch”, because we will connect these systems and, through our distribution networks, give the time that will allow us to build power generation that is fuelled with renewable energy sources. We believe that biogas and natural gas will stabilize cogeneration and guarantee that these systems will function properly,” Jakub Kowalski said.
