What goes on in Poland on the 16th of March.

Morawiecki and Macron will discuss the Polish nuclear program

On Wednesday, March 17, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will pay a visit to France. He is planning a meeting with President Emanuel Macron. The topics to be addressed by both politicians are to include issues related to the energy transition and the potential participation of the French in the construction of the first Polish nuclear power plant.

One of the most important topics discussed by both politicians is nuclear energy. Poland has already signed a contract for the design and construction of a nuclear power plant with the United States (the first unit is to be ready in 2033), but France presented a counter-offer. The French ambassador to Poland, Frédéric Billet, has already talked about the possibility of cooperation and financing the Polish nuclear power plant. In February 2021, it was announced in Warsaw by Jean Bernard Lévy, CEO of the largest French energy company EDF, who met with the government plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure, Piotr Naimski. The latter declared that the government would talk to anyone who presented the conditions consistent with the assumptions of the Polish nuclear power program.

Westinghouse promises Poles two thousand jobs related to nuclear power

Westinghouse convinces Poles to choose its technology for the construction of nuclear power plants. It promises jobs and investments to accompany the program. The company has announced that it wants to invest in nuclear technologies in Poland. It informs about the results of its representative’s talks with the Polish plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure, Piotr Naimski.

Minister Naimski informed the Polish Press Agency that Westinghouse was preparing a technological offer as part of the implementation of the intergovernmental agreement between Poland and the US to present it together with a proposal for financial support for the Polish Nuclear Power Program. The offer is to appear at the turn of 2021 and 2022.

Patrick Fragman representing Westinghouse during the talks in Warsaw was quoted in the company’s press material published after the meeting. – Westinghouse has a long history of successful and innovative nuclear projects and is well positioned to become Poland’s partner on the path to meeting its needs, creating jobs and ensuring the future of the country’s energy sector – he assured.
