What after the Yamal contract? Naimski: the future is open

Government Plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure Piotr Naimski took part in the conference “The Future of Energy Summit” organized by Bloomberg New Energy Finance. The summit is a meeting place for representatives of the world of politics, energy companies and finance since 2008. He talked about the project of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline there.

A new contract with Gazprom?

– Thanks to Baltic Pipe, the long-term gas supply route to the region will change, so far it has been running from east to west, now it will be north-south. This will increase Polish energy security – said the minister about the Polish-Danish-Norwegian project at the conference in London.

During the plenary interview “Polish prospects for energy transformation”, led by Bloomberg New Energy Finance editor Will Kennedy, Piotr Naimski also said that for the past ten years Poland has been working to become independent from Russian gas to the position of strength, and LNG is a useful tool for diversification, which is intended to contribute to better competition between “civilized” producers.

– I believe that LNG will compete with gas from gas pipelines also in Europe, and it is in the strategic interest of Poland not to extend the contract for gas supplies with Gazprom in its current form – said the politician. Asked by the moderator if in this case it is possible to conclude a contract with the Russians, but under different conditions than the Yamal contract, he said briefly: – The future is open.
