The „Baltic Biodiversity Grant” is a new grant program of the Orlen for Pomerania Foundation, the aim of which is to support activities for the protection of diverse life forms, species and ecosystems in the waters of the Baltic Sea and to increase public awareness of the importance of protecting the Baltic environment. The total pool of grants is four million zlotys, and applicants can apply for up to 500 thousand zlotys for initiatives contributing to the protection of Baltic biodiversity.

The grant competition was addressed to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), scientific and research institutions, local government units and city offices, schools, associations and foundations, and all kinds of social organizations.

– Reducing the impact on the environment is one of the pillars of the Orlen Group’s Sustainable Development Strategy. The Orlen for Pomerania Foundation has set itself the support for the protection of biodiversity as one of the goals of its activities, with particular emphasis on the Baltic Sea. The „Baltic Biodiversity Grant” program is an extension of our current portfolio of activities, thanks to which – in addition to activities for the benefit of society, culture, health and safety – we will be strongly involved in initiatives for the protection and preservation of the natural environment, also supporting local communities in ecological activities. We encourage you to submit applications – says Anna Oczoś, president of the Orlen for Pomerania Foundation.

Under the Baltic Biodiversity Grant program, applicants will be able to obtain funding in five categories. The first is the protection of the biodiversity of the Baltic Sea – including the regeneration of key habitats, the preservation of local populations of rare species protected or threatened with extinction, and the preservation of living marine resources. In addition, minimizing the impact of invasive species on local ecosystems, as well as reducing the negative impact of human activity on biodiversity.

Grants will also support monitoring and scientific research that contributes to a better understanding of the Baltic Sea ecosystems, the identification of threats and the development of new strategies for its protection. Funding can also be provided for any technological innovations in the field of protection of the Baltic Sea environment, related to minimizing pollution, improving the condition of beaches and reducing fishing.

The next category includes all initiatives promoting sustainable development and reducing the negative impact of human activity on the marine environment. Support can also be provided for activities in the field of environmental education, which serve to further increase public awareness of the importance of the biodiversity of the Baltic Sea and in the field of marine environment protection – with particular emphasis on children and youth from Pomerania.
