Polish Briefing: PGNiG is to join forces with Ukrainians. Energy law update

What goes in Poland on 12th of January 2020.

Gas cooperation

The Polish gas supplier PGNiG wants to start a new company with Ukraine’s ERU Management Services, a firm registered in Delaware, U.S. The companies already cooperate in gas supply and production in Ukraine.

Polish antimonopoly body UOKiK is to assess this form of concentration and decide whether it is in line with European regulations. The new company is to search for new deposits, produce and sell gas in Ukraine.

PGNiG already has an office in Kyiv and cooperates with ERU in gas production and sales in Ukraine.

Stability update

The Commission on Energy, Climate and State Assets at the Polish Sejm (lower chamber of the parliament) approved the amendments to the energy law. The Sejm will soon vote on the updated bill during the second reading.

One of the changes is related to the definition of a hybrid renewable installation. The limit of installed capacity was increased from 3,504 to 5,256 MWh/MW per year to increase “stability” of the new renewable generation.
