What goes on in Poland on the 27th of January.

PGNiG imports less and less gas from the East

Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo (PGNiG) reported that the estimated volume of natural gas sales by the Group in the fourth quarter of 2019 was 9,22 billion cubic meters compared to 8,58 billion cubic meters in the same period of the previous year. The company also reduces gas imports from Russia.

Extraction

Natural gas production in the fourth quarter amounted to 1,17 billion cubic meters compared to 1,2 billion cubic meters in 2018. Last year, domestic natural gas production amounted to 4,49 billion cubic meters compared to 4,55 billion cubic meters in 2018. PGNiG announced that in 2019, the overall volume of natural gas sales outside the Capital Group was 30,7 billion cubic meters compared to 29,04 billion cubic meters in 2018 (including PGNiG SA, PGNiG Obrót Detaliczny, PGNiG Supply & Trading). Crude oil production volume dropped in the fourth quarter to 327,8 thousand tonnes from 353,2 thousand tons a year earlier. The volume of crude oil sales by the PGNiG group fell to 360,7 thousand tons from 377,9 thousand tons in 2018.

Declining imports from Russia

In turn, natural gas imports amounted to 3,97 billion cubic meters. gas against 2,95 billion cubic meters a year before. Imports from the eastern direction amounted to 2,65 billion cubic meters against 1,1 billion cubic meters a year before. However, looking at the whole year, in 2018 PGNiG imported 9,04 billion cubic meters. In 2019, it was 8,95 billion cubic meters. The volume of imports increased to 14,85 billion cubic meters of gas against 13,53 billion cubic meters a year before. LNG imports are also growing. In 2018, the level of 2,71 billion cubic meters was recorded, while in 2019 it was 3,43 billion cubic meters.

Heat

The volume of heat sales in the fourth quarter dropped to 12,98 PJ from 14,26 PJ. Sales of electricity from production fell to 1,27 TWh from 1,31 TWh last year.

Gas storage

According to estimates at the end of December 2019, the state of gas reserves belonging to PGNiG, including also mandatory reserves under the responsibility of the Minister of Energy, amounted to approximately 3,7 billion cubic meters of gas calculated as high-methane gas with a combustion heat of 39,5 mJ/cubic meter.

Inventories include high-methane gas, nitrogen gas, stored in Poland and abroad, and LNG gas in the terminal. The data do not include the volume of natural gas controlled by Gaz-System.
