PGNiG wants a discount from Gazprom a few days after Kwieciński’s departure
After the departure of Jerzy Kwieciński at the end of October, the management board chaired by Jarosław Wróbel, acting president of PGNiG, has now decided to apply for a price discount under the Yamal contract with Russian Gazprom.
PGNiG states that „it applied for a renegotiation of the price conditions for natural gas supplies under a long-term contract with Gazprom and exercised its contractual entitlement and submitted an application to PAO Gazprom and OOO Gazprom Export to change the price of gas supplied under the natural gas purchase and sale agreement to Of the Republic of Poland of September 25, 1996 (the so-called Yamal contract) towards its lowering”. – In accordance with the provisions of the Yamal contract, each party to the contract may request renegotiation of the price terms for supplies once every three years if it deems that they do not correspond to the market situation – the company assesses.
Poles won the arbitration dispute over gas prices in the Yamal contract. They declared that they would not extend it after the end of the contract in 2022, having alternatives in the form of LNG and the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline from Norway.
