Poland and Lithuania discuss energy and transport

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda paid an official visit to Poland that was also his the first foreign visit as president. Bilateral relations, in particular on economic cooperation, current themes from the EU agenda and matters related to regional energy and transport infrastructure were discussed during the meetings.

Speaker of the Sejm Marek Kuchciński talked with the Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, who came to Poland with the first official foreign visit after taking office. The meeting was also attended by MP Grzegorz Janik, vice-chairman of the Polish-Lithuanian Parliamentary Group and Agnieszka Kaczmarska, head of the Chancellery of the Sejm.

Welcoming the President of Lithuania, the Speaker of the Sejm congratulated him on his victory in the elections and noted that Warsaw and Vilnius are connected by ambitious plans to strengthen cooperation in the coming years.

One of the main topics of the meeting was the cooperation of both countries at the parliamentary level. The politicians also discussed cooperation within the European Union, recalling the issue of the new budget perspective. Infrastructure of the region and strengthening of transport ties between Poland and Lithuania were also among the discussed issues. In this context, Marek Kuchciński and Gitanas Nausėda discussed the projects of Via Carpatia, Rail Baltica and Via Baltica.

The Speaker of the Sejm and the President of Lithuania also talked about economic cooperation and in the field of security and defense. 450th anniversary of the Union of Lublin celebrated this year was mentioned as well. – We hope that our cooperation will develop more and more dynamically to the benefit of Lithuania, Poland and all of Europe – emphasized the Marshal of the Sejm.
