Polish Briefing: Poland may offer Germany the Baltic Pipe capacity instead of Nord Stream 2

What goes on in Poland on the 10th of September.

Poland may offer Germany the Baltic Pipe capacity instead of Nord Stream 2

Poland is ready to offer Germany the possibility of using the Baltic Pipe under construction instead of Nord Stream 2, said Polish government spokesman Piotr Müller in the morning program on TVP Info.

The Baltic Pipe gas pipeline, built from Norway via Denmark to Poland, is to have a capacity of up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year and is to transmit it from Norway by 2022. The Russian Nord Stream 2 is almost ready, but the Americans are threatening sanctions against companies that would complete the project. Many politicians in Germany, including those on behalf of the ruling CDU / CSU party, were in favor of suspending the construction of the Russian gas pipeline due to the possible poisoning of Alexei Navalny. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the decision on Nord Stream 2 has not yet been made.

– We have to consider various options when it comes to energy security. From the very beginning, Poland emphasized that European solidarity in this area must be preserved. Therefore, in the event of declaring energy needs on the German side, Poland is open to using the infrastructure it is building for its energy security – said Piotr Müller in TVP Info. He added that “it is difficult not to look with concern at initiatives such as Nord Stream 2, which run counter to the idea of solidarity and energy security.”

On Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki also referred to this issue in the “Sygnały Dnia” broadcast on Polish Radio’s First Program. He called on Germany to stop the construction of the new Baltic Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany in connection with the events in Belarus and the attempt to poison the Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

– The reaction of the West should be even stronger, it should stop work on Nord Stream 2 or the Northern gas pipeline, which strengthens Russia, helps President Putin build military strength, and intimidates other nations. Here I think that this alarm clock rang very loudly and that the Germans will finally understand that this is an anti-European, anti-liberal project, it is supporting the dictatorship, supporting the authoritarian system that violently violates the freedom desires of the Belarusian people at this moment – said the Prime Minister on aired on Polish Radio.
