Energy sovereignty and renewable energy on the margins of the TVP presidential debate

Energy security and climate policy appeared on the sidelines of the debate before the presidential election on TVP. During the debate, the question was asked about Poland’s military and energy security. Energy and climate accents appeared in the responses of some of the candidates.

– We are getting stronger, we will be fully energetically sovereign soon. We have great relations with the United States – enumerated incumbent President Andrzej Duda. He emphasized the importance of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline project, which he supported under presidential competences.

According to Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, Poland should develop renewable energy. – We must focus on renewable energy – she appealed in the debate. However, in her opinion, Polish energy will not be safe if „Poles do not talk to each other”.

Robert Biedroń assured that he would „fight for the climate”.

Coronavirus did not harm the Poland-Lithuania Gas Pipeline

The Lithuanian Ministry of Energy reports that the coronavirus pandemic has not harmed the construction of the Poland-Lithuania Gas Pipeline (GIPL), which is expected to be ready by the end of 2021. He argues again that this gas pipeline can be used to supply gas to Belarus.

The works are proceeding according to the schedule. – Through concentration and proper organization of work, as well as the implementation of all safety requirements, it was possible to continue work without interruption for even one day during seven weeks of isolation in Lithuania. The goal remains the same. Two-thirds of this gas pipeline must be built this year – energy minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas announced.
