Naimski: US LNG will be 20-30 percent cheaper than Russian gas

Poland will not prolong the Yamal contract. Piotr Naimski, Government Plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure, announced that the agreement is extremely unfavorable for Warsaw, which is why it diversifies the sources of gas supplies. According to him, LNG deliveries from the United States are 20-30 percent cheaper than gaz delivered by Gazprom.

– We run a rather complicated strategy of diversifying sources and directions of gas supplies to Poland. I am pleased to conduct these activities from the end of 2015. We are on a very good road to resign from the Yamal contract in 2022. We will not extend it. This is unfavorable for Poland – said Naimski on Polish Radio 24.

The Minister pointed out that natural gas is considered by Russia as a foreign policy tool. – We’re aware of that. The manifestation of these activities is the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and discussions on the future of gas transit through Ukraine – he said. – After a very long time, we can say that we are at the stage of resignation from the supply of Russian gas – he added.

During the broadcast he also referred to the first LNG delivery from the USA, based on a 24-year contract with Cheniere. – Thanks to it, a total of 39 billion cubic meters of gas will go to Poland. It will be 20-30 percent cheaper than the raw material supplied by the Russians. This should affect our accounts. The situation in which we pay for gas more than our western neighbors is not sustainable – said Naimski.

He reminded that Poland is implementing investments that are to contribute to strengthening energy security. Among them, he mentioned the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline and the extension of the LNG terminal in Świnoujście. – All these investments are implemented according to the schedule – said Minister Naimski. In this context, he stressed that the draft relevant laws, which are to facilitate the implementation of these investments, have the support of all political options in the Sejm.
