Polish Briefing: New RES auctions will create 15 thousand jobs

What goes on in Poland on the 8th of August.

PWEA: New RES auctions will create 15 thousand jobs

– Virtually every element of onshore wind farms can already be produced in Poland, and this is important because every 10 MW generates 61 new jobs. Only that one auction that will be held this year according to the new law on renewable energy will create over 15 thousand new jobs – said Janusz Gajowiecki, head of the Polish Wind Energy Association during a meeting of the wind industry with representatives of the government, the European Commission and local governments on the subject of transformation of mining regions. PWEA also wants to participate in the energy transformation in Silesia by creating a training center there to be a forge of personnel and technical facilities for the wind sector in Poland.

PWEA: Auctions are new jobs

In his opinion, more than 15 thousand jobs could be created when constructing new wind farms with a capacity of over 2,5 GW. According to Gajowiecki, now the investment costs are lower in the onshore and offshore wind sector than a few years ago, but looking at energy production costs by technology, the share of domestic supplies in the total cost of energy production for onshore wind farms in Poland is about 65 percent.

– The Polish government plans to create 10 GW capacity in offshore wind farms by 2040, which results from the draft Polish Energy Policy. According to PWEA, it may even be 24 GW, including the possibility of building land farms next to offshore wind farms. If we do not go further with the wind, the number of jobs on land will shrink and it will be difficult for the country to create elements of offshore wind farms – he warned.
