An official detained on suspicion of espionage prepared profiles of people dealing with energy security for the Russian services – reports the weekly “Do Rzeczy”.

– At the end of March, the Internal Security Agency informed about the detention of an official of the Ministry of Energy, who was to cooperate with the Russian intelligence. According to the information which “Do Rzeczy” has reached, Marek W. has been monitored by Polish services for a long time – we read in the weekly.

– A Polish official cooperating with the Russian services was targeted by the so-called counterintelligence surveillance sent after the defense attaché at the embassy of the Russian Federation. Marek W.’s meetings with the diplomat of the Russian Federation were frequent and went beyond his official duties. In addition, he also met with another employee of the Russian embassy, about which the Polish services knew that he was an intelligence officer working under diplomatic cover – informs “Do Rzeczy”.

Nord Stream 2: Spain understands Poland, but waits for the Commission

Spain understands Poland’s fears over the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline – said Foreign Minister Alfonso Dastis on Friday in Madrid after meeting with the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jacek Czaputowicz.

Asked by PAP about the position of the government in Madrid on Nord Stream 2, Dastis replied that Madrid would abstain from the decision on the new gas pipeline from Russia to Germany until the European Commission issued an assessment on the compatibility of this project with EU policy. He stressed, however, that the Spanish authorities “understand Polish fears, both political and economic” towards the Russian pipeline.

Dastis assessed that security policy is increasingly important in the context of European Union activities, especially in areas such as terrorism and the migration crisis.

The head of the Spanish diplomacy stressed that on Friday together with Czaputowicz they discussed, among others about security issues, including the attitude to Russia after the attack on the double Russian agent Sergei Skripal, who was tried to poison in Salisbury, England. Both Warsaw and Madrid are among the countries that in the wake of the attack have expelled Russian diplomats.

– We must do everything to prevent this kind of attack from happening again in the future – added Dastis, stressing that Spain and Poland are allies.
