Polish Briefing: “Europe has enough gas, but everywhere” | Gaz-System wants to use all kinds of financing for the FSRU

Buzek

What goes on in Poland on the 28th of June.

Buzek: Europe has enough gas, but not everywhere

It is important how we approach the missing infrastructure on the European continent. There is enough gas in the EU, but it is not available in all places, said the former prime minister and president of the European Parliament, and the current MEP, prof. Jerzy Buzek.

– Talking about the energy transition was much simpler before February 24, now it is about ensuring security of supply. In the short term, next week the European Parliament will vote on a complementary delegated act to a taxonomy regulation that will define the future of gas in the Union – the conditions for future financing or clear deadlines when gas investments will only apply to renewable gases. The European Parliament is divided on this issue, and I hope that this will be defended in the general session. In the medium term, we have adopted new regulations to fill gas storage in the EU. We are well advanced here in Poland, we are launching the Baltic Pipe project. We included in the regulation such countries as Poland, Portugal and Spain, which have no problems with gas supply, we believe that by November 1, European storage facilities will be 85 percent full. This would give us certainty, because thanks to this, the stored gas would be enough for the European Union to cover consumption for a month and a half – said Jerzy Buzek.

– We plan to build a floating LNG terminal in the Gdańsk Bay with a capacity of 6 billion cubic meters per year, with the option of doubling it, by adding a second vessel, there would be onshore infrastructure. The construction will be financed with European funds, for which we are grateful, there will also be bank loans. We want to use all sources of financing, we have recently received funding from the State Treasury – said Artur Zawartko, VP of Gaz-System.

– We want the new infrastructure to be adapted to the transmission of hydrogen admixtures, maybe more than the five percent that are currently being talked about in Brussels. It is also a challenge for our entrepreneurs who manufacture fittings. You also need a grant for this. Operators must be ready for this, because if policies change rapidly, infrastructure cannot be rapidly added. Unfortunately, it is more difficult in times when there is a war – said the vice president of Gaz-System.
