Polish Briefing: Gazprom may be buying time in a trial with PGNiG

What goes on in Poland on the 29th of September.

Gazprom may be buying time in a trial with PGNiG

Outcome of arbitrage trial between PGNiG and Russian Gazprom was supposed to be known in Summer 2017. This did not happen. Are the Russians playing on time?

There is no progress in relations with Gazprom, the main (8 billion cubic meters a year) gas supplier to Poland. In an arbitrage price trial yet another delay is caused by Gazprom’s arbitrator.

– There is an opinion that playing on time is in option. Anyway, there is nothing we can do about it as our partner has a right to choose its representative – said PGNiG’s CEO Piotr Woźniak to BiznesAlert.pl.

PGNiG representatives expect the Russian company not to be flexible in talks. It is a game of a big amount of money because the price will be retroactive, which means that it will be valid from the moment of applying the demand of changing it in April 2011.

PGNiG sued price conditions of Yamal deal, which is a long-term between PGNiG and Gazprom, settled in 1996 and renewed in 2010. A similar case had been won by RWE. Polish company does not exclude a deal out of court, but stresses that there is no will for cooperation on the Russian side.

It will use it during Auto Parts International Exhibition that will take place in Teheran in November this year. Lotos Group specialists will present their products and take part in a conference there – informs „Puls Biznesu”.

The newspaper writes that after the first oil delivery from Iran, company representatives mentioned next ones, or even a long-term contract. – However, no new deals have been signed yet. Krzysztof Kopeć claims that the case is still open – the paper informs.
